On Stephen King’s birthday, we revisit little known adaptations from their tales that became movies

This Sunday, Stephen King turns 78 years old. The iconic author’s birthday arrives at a special time for fans: recently debuted in theaters Chuck’s lifeadaptation directed by Mike Flanaganand The long marchcommanded by Francis Lawrence. These releases show that the work of the master of terror is even wider and adapted than many imagine – and exploit the most diverse genres.

Much of this less known production comes from Dollar Baby Projectcreated by Kingwhich allows young filmmakers to acquire the rights of their stories for only $ 1. That’s how short and feature films inspired by stories such as Dedication (2018) and Into The Night (2019) revealing a more experimental side of filmography based on your literature.

More than four decades after its first publication, Stephen King Follows multiplying universes on the page and screens. So, the Rolling Stone Brazil brought a list of five films that are part of these adaptations. See below:

The monkey (2025)

When the twins Bill and Hal (Theo James, Divergent) Find a old toy monkey in the attic, starts a series of terrible deaths. The brothers decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, distancing themselves over the years.

Field of fear (2019)

Based on the book In the Tall Grassregistered by Stephen and Joe Hill, The movie against a pregnant woman and her brother enter a thicket to help a lost child, but end up stuck in the closed woods as well. They discover that there is a dark power inhabiting the region and need to find a way to escape.

Curse (1984 version)

Count on me (1986)

Dangerous Game (2017) – Netflix

A couple tries to spice up the relationship by spending a night in their remote house on the lake. When Jessie (Carla Gugino, Spies) Accidentally kills her husband during a sexual game, being handcuffed to bed and with no hope of rescue, she soon begins to delirious.

Mr. Mercedes (2017–2019)

In the plot of Mr. Mercedes (Brendan Gleeson, Extermination) A retired detective is tormented by a serial killer through various letters and emails. This story also comes from the police trilogy of novels, but contains calls with short tales that expand this universe.
