Why ‘Let It Be’ Beatles is ‘trash’, according to Glyn Johns

Producer of Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, who also worked on Liverpool’s last album failed the end result

Glyn Johns is producer of some of the main bands – and also some of the main albums – of rock, as Rolling Stones, LED ZEPPELIN and The Who. He, however, disapproves of the final result of Let it be (1970), album that marked the farewell of the Beatles.

Johns even worked in the initial sessions of what would become the album, as recorded in the documentaries Let it be (1970) and The Beatles: Get Back (2021). However, he saw his efforts shelved.

Phil Spector It was eventually called to finish the album. Consequently, signed the final production of Let it be.

Obviously, Glyn Johns was frustrated. Not only with the situation involving its replacement, but also with the final sound of Let it be.

In 2014 interview with New York Times (via Far Out), the producer criticized Spector’s work and said that the album does not sound like the band. He stated:

“I was disappointed that Lennon was able to deliver the record to Spector, and even more disappointed with what Spector did with him. It has nothing to do with the Beatles. Let it be It’s a lot of trash. ”

In the assessment of Glyn Johns, the songs were too “Meloas”, especially for the excess of overdubs inserted by Phil Spector:

“As I said in the book, (Spector) vomited on him. I never heard the whole album, I only heard the first bars of some things and said, ‘Ah, forget.’

Beatles and Let it be… naked

Paul McCartney tends to agree with Glyn Johns. In 2001, the Beatle headed the relaunch of Let it be with a simplified production, signed by Paul Hicks, Guy Massey and ALLAN ROUSEand renamed it as Let it be… naked.

Already the tapes recorded by Glyn Johns at the beginning of the composition of Let it be were filed and were only available in 2021 as part of the box Let it be super deluxe.
