Vocalist recognizes that situation in the past decade still leaves him “heartbroken”, but reveals to understand reasons behind it: “It’s the way it happened”
42 years of career. More than 130 million records sold. About 3,000 shows held in 50 different countries, usually in large arenas or stadiums. Six albums and four singles at the top of the American charts. Recognitions such as a Grammy Award and entrance to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Such information summarizes the trajectory of the Bon Jovione of the most successful bands in history.
A “curriculum” like this shouldn’t keep upset, correct? But that’s not the case. There is a situation, which occurred in the last decade, that still leaves the vocalist Jon Bon Jovi disappointed.
This is the exit of the guitarist Richie Samborasacrament in 2013 after 30 years in training. The musician claimed a series of personal and even professional reasons to justify his departure, which occurred amid a tour of North America. He had to be in a hurry Phil xwho had already occupied the vacancy temporarily in 2011.
In an interview with Podcast Dumb Blonde (via Music Radar), Jon stated that his colleague, his main composition partner, left the group in a not so cool way. This makes him “heartbroken.”
Initially, the singer was asked if the relationship with the guitarist has improved in recent years. The answer is not the most enlightening:
“The best thing I said about him throughout our lives was that you would be lucky to call him a friend, and I speak seriously. Talented: besides guitarist, talented as singer, as a collaborator, wonderful, right arm, amazing.
Following, Jon began the outburst. Even after more than a decade – and a punctual meeting performance at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 – the singer has not yet digested the guitarist’s abrupt departure.
“My sadness with him is the way he abandoned us, aggravated by the fact that he took years for him to return to the room just to dinner with me and with Tico (Towersdrummer) and David (Bryankeyboardist) to say, ‘I’m sorry’. It is unfortunate. It is from the heart. ”
Jon, in the end, comprises output
Although disagreeing with the medium used for the exit, Jon Bon Jovi understands the reason that led to the decision made by Richie Sambora. In later interviews, the guitarist stated that he felt “reduced” by the singer, whose artistic surname baptizes the band.
“If what he wanted was just to be Richie Sambora, not a member of Bon Jovi, because do it, you know? Always incentive all my guys, because my attitude was: ‘Bring back the information you have learned out there, it will only help us.” Recompass, so it’s not our fault, right?
Why Richie Sambora left Bon Jovi
In 2018 interview with Rolling Stone USA, Richie Sambora spoke openly about the reasons that made him leave the Bon Jovi. Personal and professional issues interfered with the decision. The main one was related to the tiredness of making long tours, which lasted more than a year. This made him away from his family.
“You come home: things have changed. Divorce, birth, death. High and downs of normal life. Small tragedies. Love, joy. You lose all these things several times. As I said, we were not a band that took a long time on vacation.Ava) I needed me at that time, my father was dying of cancer, I was in the middle of a divorce and had still broke my shoulder. ”

With regard to the professional part, Sambora said she wanted to have more protagonism on vocals – and he would only get it out of the band that takes the singer’s surname.
“I needed to do something different and, frankly, I wanted to sing! I wanted to be a main singer. In many bands I was before, I was the main singer and missed it.”
Despite the well -founded reasons, Richie regrets the way she chose to leave the group. In the documentary Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story (2024), publicly apologized:
“I don’t regret leaving the situation, but I regret how I did it, so I want to apologize completely right now with the fans, especially, and also with the guys, because my feet and spirit just didn’t let me go out the front door.”
