British band drummer debuts with interactive track that can only be accessed via site with registration in mailing list
Matt Heldersdrummer of Arctic Monkeyslaunched a new solo project called Terrific with the debut single “Weho Yet?”. The release marks the return of the musician to work outside the British band.
To access “Weho Yet?”listeners need to sign up for the project’s email list through a site with 8-bit-inspired visuals. Music lyrics only appear when the user types the “/h” command: “Passionate Crimes, I’m Going In Blind / You and Me 69 On The Hollywood Sign / The Fuck You Talking About? / I’m in love, that’s it, I’m out“.
The track has glam rock sound, a style that Arctic Monkeys have explored earlier. Many listeners immediately speculated on the participation of Tyler Parkfordfrom Mini Mansionsin the creation of music. Parkfordwhich is also a member of the tour of the Arctic Monkeysit is curiously the only account that the official profile of the Terrific Follow, besides its own Helders.

The mystery deepens when we look at the project’s minimalist biography: “I Got the Feeling You’re Next” (“I have a feeling that you are next”). It is a phrase that sounds as a threat and invitation at the same time, capturing exactly the provocative spirit that permeates the entire presentation of the Terrific.
This is not the first solo experiment of Heldersbut it is certainly the most intriguing. In 2008, he contributed to the series LATE NIGHT TALES with a DJ mix album, reimaging tracks of The Black Keys, The Stooges, Goblin and MOS DEF. The following year, he joined the vocalist of Milburn, Joe Carnallfor the retro-futurizing record signed as Good Cop Bad Cop.
Now, at 41, Helders seems to be exploring a more personal and bold facet of his creativity. “Weho Yet?” It suggests that the drummer is not just experimenting with rhythms, but building a sound universe of his own, one where raw sensuality finds the technical sophistication that has always characterized his work.
The question that is in the air is the same as the title of the track, adapted to us: “So, have you found out what it is?”
