Chinese actor famous for the martial arts skill reveals what his favorite work in the midst of a career that has lasted six decades

The actor answered this question during one of the premieres of his new project, Karate Kid: Legends (2025), who hit the movie screens in early May.

Questioned by Letterboxd (via Far Out), social platform for cinéfilos, which record and share their impressions of films to which they watched, Jackie Chan elected Police Story – The Drug War (1985) as your best work.

About Police Story – The Drug War

This is the first movie in the Chinese franchise Police Story. In it, the actor plays the detective “Kevin” Chan Ka-Kuiwhich holds a large local trafficker, but needs to prove that he is innocent after being accused of committing a murder.

Full of action scenes, including struggles, car chases, cloaks in the city of Hong Kong and other typical eccentricities of the genre, Police Story projected the Chinese actor in Europe and in United States.

It is worth noting that Jackie Chan may be suspicious when praising his own movie, but he is not alone in this. In 2016, Police Story – The Drug War was elected by the Entertainment Magazine Time Out as the 5th best action movie in history.

About the actor

Jackie Chan (Chan Kong-Sang) was born on April 7, 1954 in Victoria Peak, in the then British colony of Hong Kong. He was sent as a child to study at China Drama Academy, a Beijing Opera School where he trained martial arts, singing and acrobatics under the instructor’s tutelage Yu Jim-Yuen. This formation marked the beginning of his career as a children’s, stinging and extra actor in local cinematic productions.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Chan debuted as Kung Fu star in films that combined martial arts and comedy. During this stage it built the Jackie Chan Stunt Teamresponsible for choreography and execution of action scenes in many of their subsequent films.

In the 1990s, Chan reached the largest exhibition in the US market. In response to changes in the industry, Chan founded the JCE Movies Limited in association with the EMPEROR MULTIMEDIA GROUP to develop and produce their own works.

Jackie Chan became known for performing much of her risk scenes in person. Records in their filmography and promotional material have highlighted injuries suffered throughout their career, including fractures and displacements resulting from complex acrobatics.

In recognition of his career, Chan has received several international awards and honors over the decades, including an Honorary Award (Honorary) Academy delivered in 2016. In addition to actor and stunt, Jackie acted as director, producer, action choreographer and entrepreneur.
