Dirk Libbey, also of Gossipify, says the series was like “boston legal but with superheroes “, and manages to add something to the Marvel Cinematic Universe while still feeling like it belongs to it:
After 4 episodes, #SheHulkAttorneyAtLaw is a strong contender for my favorite MCU show on Disney +. Like WandaVision, it not only adds new characters, but a whole new vibe to the MCU, making it something completely new, while remaining Marvel-style. Make no mistake, it’s a … pic.twitter.com/VbA8etxXwGAugust 16, 2022
Uproxx’s Mike Ryan has the same line of thinking, and even if he admits some fatigue afterwards so many wonderful movies and TV shows it’s more like watching Ally McBeal:
I also feel the fatigue of Marvel. And I was really looking forward to SHE-HULK: LAWYER for that reason. But, my God, this show (four episodes) is so smart and funny. It’s less about superheroes than watching an episode of Ally McBeal.August 16, 2022
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff says this series wouldn’t work without Tatiana Maslany’s masterful comic timing and her chemistry with the rest of the cast. The actress’s work helps the series through some of the more difficult visual effects:
Pleasantly surprised by #SheHulk! The trailers were a little tricky, but seeing everything in context makes a big difference. Unsurprisingly, the visuals are a mixed bag, impressive in some scenes, excellent in others, but it works quite well with a lot of help from Maslany’s work. pic.twitter.com/DWdkmS1770August 16, 2022
ComicBook.com’s Jenna Anderson also praised the lead actress’s work, saying that while she expected Tatiana Maslany to be “perfect,” the lead actress surpassed all expectations. She likened the revisitation of the first episodes of the series when they premiered to a “religious experience”:
I’ve now seen the first four episodes of #SheHulk three times, and they’re everything I want them to be and more. The show is lighthearted, unapologetically weird and extremely funny. This sets a new gold standard for what MCU shows are capable of. pic.twitter.com/4Z8jAe293LAugust 16, 2022
And to add just one more tweet celebrating the protagonist’s wonder, Greg Alba commends her for making the character fun and recognizable:
No nonsense, #TatianaMaslany’s performance in #SheHulk is PERFECT! it is 100% natural. It gives a lot of weight to the character, but is also fun and recognizable. I know she sounds strange to say, but she is similar to Iman Vellani: she feels like a real person. Great chemistry all around.August 16, 2022
Speaking of comedy, Julia Delbel warns MCU fans that if you’re someone who takes the universe very seriously, this may not be the show for you:
If you like comedy and want to learn more about how the MCU hero business works on a daily basis, #SheHulk is for you! seriously, the show is not going to be for you (glorious mockery of that kind of fan). pic.twitter.com/vwGhrqDtCtAugust 16, 2022
Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis agrees, calling the first four episodes “hilarious,” perhaps even overstepping the line by being too clumsy at times. However, he highly recommends it she-hulk for MCU fans looking for something fun:
#SheHulk has a hilarious and chaotic energy. This is one of the funniest first of 4 episodes I’ve ever seen, often hilarious and sometimes too silly for me. It is pure pleasure. Jen Walters is great. Want more eps soon. More: https://t.co/Mvvx9jRPoZ pic.twitter.com/Rv7TS1ntV9August 16, 2022
