What thinks family of the late Neil Peart about Rush’s return

Band announced 12 shows tour of North America with honors to the late drummer and German Anika Nilles in his place

As reported, Geddy Lee (voice, bass and keyboards) and Alex Lifeson (guitar) will return to the road as Rush In 2026, for a “50 -and -night 50” tour dedicated to the memory of his late drummer, Neil Peart. The German virtuous Anika Nilleswhich has already played with Jeff Beckwill join them on the tour “Fifty Something”with 12 dates and seven cities in North America.

Lee and Lifeson’s decision can cause controversy between a portion of fans. After all, Peart was a very important portion of the group, either in his instrument or in the responsibility of most lyrics, given his talent for writing.

In addition, in interviews, the remnant duo said several times that the band would not return without their classic drummer. Neil was not an original member – John Rutsey He recorded the first album, released in 1974 – but his presence over the decades was decisive to the success of the project.

With regard to Peart’s family, however, the new activities are properly approved. The initiative has support from Carrie Nuttall-Peart and Olivia Peartrespectively widow and daughter of Neil.

In a joint note to the press, Carrie and Olivia say:

“We are excited to support the tour Fifty Somethingcelebrating a band whose music resonated and inspired fans for generations, and to honor Neil’s extraordinary legacy as a drummer and lyricist. ”

The Rush tour

The first appointment will be June 7 at Kia Forum in Los Angeles – the same place where Rush did his last show with Peart in August 2015.

In a press release, Lee stated:

“After all that happened since the last show, Alex and I did a serious self -analysis and came to the conclusion that we missed it.

Neil Peart died in 2020 after a fight against brain cancer. The group had been out of commitment since 2015, when it held its final tour, but did not announce to the public his retirement.

About Anika Nilles, a 42 -year -old drummer summoned to the post, Lee added:

“As we all know, Neil was irreplaceable. However, life is full of surprises, and we have been introduced to another remarkable person; an incredible drummer and musician who is adding another chapter to our history while continuing his own fascinating musical journey. His name is Anika Nilles, and we could not be more excited to introduce her to our loyal and dedicated Rush fans, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know will give you all the chances of being up to this almost impossible role. ”

In addition to Nilles, other musicians will be included as tour members. The names have not been revealed, but it is imagined that there will be at least one keyboardist, leaving Geddy free to just sing and play low. Each show will have two sets, with 35 songs in all.
