Carpet Persa, by Lucas Pimenta, stars names like Hugo Bonemer, from the miniseries Senna, and Marcelo Valle, who participates in the new feature film by Kleber Mendonça Filho
Persian Rugshort film starring Hugo Bonemer (Senna), Gustavo Pace (The Blacklist) and Marcelo Valle (of The Secret AgentBrazil’s candidate for the 2026 Oscar), was selected to be part of the 24th edition of the San Diego International Film Festivalrecognized as one of the most important events in the audiovisual industrywhich takes place between the 15th and 19th of October in California, in the United States.
Written and directed by Lucas Pimentawho is also responsible for producing the short through his production company, Smiley Pepper Films, Persian Rug It was born from an exercise in daily observation.
According to the filmmaker, the idea came about when he observed two men cleaning a carpet, in an unnatural way, as if they had come out of a 1980s sitcom, which sparked the following question: “What if these characters were so clumsy that they caused a tragedy while on duty?”
From this and using acid humor, temporal cuts and limit situations, Persian Rug explores vulnerability, violence and fragile masculinity. The carpet, a trigger for the project, also enters the story as a central metaphor and guides the structure of the film: Only from a distance is it possible to understand the complete design.
In a press release, Pimenta celebrated the selection of Persian Rug for the San Diego International Film Festival lineup: “Being alongside big names in the industry, projects that are already up for an Oscar, living the experience of having your film shown at such a unique and relevant festival is an indescribable feeling, which only makes us want to look for more.”
