Although the Addams family has received cinematic attention in recent years for two animated films, this fall will bring another live-action adaptation of this creepy, quirky and downright whimsical clan. In June, we first saw Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams on the Netflix show. Wednesday, and now the first look at the central character with other members of his family is here. Furthermore, Wednesday Co-creator Alfred Gough gave some details on how this Tim Burton live stream series differs from previous live-action adaptations of this property.
A year ago, it was announced that Luis Guzmán would play Gómez Addams Wednesdayand days later, Catherine Zeta-Jones was cast to play Morticia Addams. Wednesday will also play Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, and you can see Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday with her brother and parents pictured below from dressing table:

Either way, given the kind of gothic content Tim Burton produced in his film career, it was time for it to be paired with The Addams Family, and as his first TV release to begin with! Ironically, Burton was cast first addams family film in the early 90s, but let it flow. There was also a stop-motion addams family film planned in the early 2010s that Burton would co-write and co-produce, but was shelved. Either way, among the ways Burton tried to make Wednesday stand out from the previous live action addams family projects had to go back to the original addams family cartoons of Charles Addams in the look of Gomez. As Alfred Gough explains:
I wanted the figure to look more like Charles Addams cartoons, who is Gomez shorter than Morticia, rather than the elegant version of Raul Julia in the movies.
Along with Raúl Julia, Gómez Addams was played live by John Astin, Tim Curry and Glenn Taranto, while Oscar Isaac gave him the voice in animated films released in 2019 and 2021. Now it’s up to Luis Guzmán to bring the character . to life, and co-creator Miles Millar said this about this version of the character, as well as what Tim Burton hoped to achieve with Wednesday:
It’s also incredibly elegant and romantic, and I think it has all those classic Gomez ingredients that preceded them, but it also brings something very different and new. This is something very important to the program: that it doesn’t look like a new version or a reboot. It is something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it is something of its own. It’s not about trying to be the 1960s movie or TV show. It was very important to us and very important to Tim.
However, don’t get me wrong, don’t enter Wednesday thinking it will be another traditional Addams family story. The series follows the title protagonist as an older teenager attending Nevermore Academy, a prestigious boarding school for the outcast. Wednesday’s arrival coincides with a series of murders that are devastating the city where the institute is based. So while we will see our fair share of Morticia, Gomez and Pugsly on Wednesday (especially Mortica, as Catherine Zeta-Jones is a regular series), it should be absolutely clear to Netflix subscribers that Addams is ahead of plans on Wednesday. in this adjustment. Alfred Gough also said that Tim Burton was drawn to the way he could explore Wednesdays’ character without having to “get things done in an hour and 45 minutes”, Miles Millar adding that “the ambition of the show was for this to be an eight-one hour film by Tim Burton.
