Tron: Ares: what start for the film in theaters?

Tron: Ares spent its first weekend in theaters

Fifteen years after the release of its second part, the saga Tron go back to the cinema with Aresproduced this time by Joachim Rønning. Addressing a current issue, the film tells the story the encounter between man and a being equipped with artificial intelligenceafter the latter was sent to our world to carry out a dangerous mission.

As reported a few days ago, Ares divided the critics before his release. Its special effects were widely praised, but some journalists pointed out the flaws in its story. Following this, the feature film was released last Wednesday 8 October in France and Friday 10 October in North America and in many other territories. It has therefore just spent its first weekend in theaters.

Disappointing results

Unfortunately for him, Ares executed a disappointing start at the box office. Screened in 4,000 North American theaters, the film racked up $33.5 million according to data reported by Variety. The media explains that this represents a weak start, even for a franchise that has never made much money.

Internationally, Ares added $27 million to its total revenue. In total, the film grossed approx 60 million dollars. This amount is too low if you take your budget into consideration. Because this is very high. Disney spent $180 million to produce the feature film. And that doesn’t include the additional millions the studio shelled out to market the film.

Roofman AND The Kiss of the Spider Woman also discover

Joachim Rønning’s feature film isn’t the only one to have experienced a difficult first weekend at the North American box office. Roofmandramatic comedy Derek Cianfrance with Channing Tatum AND Kirsten Dunst based on a true story, only collected 8 million dollars on 3,340 rooms. Just like Aresit did worse than experts expected. Fortunately, its budget is only 19 million.

With regard to The Kiss of the Spider Womanthe new movie with Jennifer Lopez AND Diego Lunahe did it an extremely low score. Of the 1,300 cinemas in which it was shown, it only grossed $840,000. It will therefore encounter great difficulty repaying its $34 million budget.
