Keira Knightley had ‘no knowledge’ of the ‘Harry Potter’ boycott before joining the cast of the audiobook

“We all have very different opinions,” says the actress. “I hope we can all find respect”

Keira Knightley said he was “not aware” of the call for a boycott of Harry Potter due to anti-trans statements by JK Rowling before joining the voice cast of Harry Potter: The Full Cast Audio Editions.

In an interview with Decidethe interviewer noted that the actress is voicing Professor Umbridge for the audiobooks of Harry Potter from the Pottermore Publishing and Audible and asked if she knew that some fans called for a boycott of Harry Potter.

“I wasn’t aware of that, no. I’m sorry,” he said. Knightley to the vehicle. “You know, I think we’re all living in a period of time right now where we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we all have very different opinions. I hope we can all find respect.”

Rowling has for years endorsed or made repeated transphobic comments, which have drawn criticism from both fans of Harry Potter as well as actors, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

In an interview with On Purpose With Jay Shetty last month, Watson explained how she deals with valuing her time spent with the creator of Harry Potter, JK Rowlingdespite the author having publicly denounced it, together with Radcliffefor taking a stand against his anti-trans stance.

“I really don’t believe that because I have had this experience, and hold onto the love, support and views that I have, means that I cannot and do not value Jo and the person I have had personal experiences with,” he said. Watson. “I will never believe that one thing cancels out the other and that my experience with this person, I can’t keep and value. I just don’t think these things are either/or.”

Watson added, “It’s my deepest desire that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion love me and I hope I can continue to love people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”

After nuanced analysis of Watson about their relationship, JK Rowling responded by harshly criticizing the actress as “ignorant”. In a long post on the social platform X, Rowling dismissed the report of Watson. “Like others who have never experienced adulthood without the cushion of wealth and fame, Emma has so little real-life experience that she is ignorant of how ignorant she is,” the author wrote.

Rowling acknowledged that he is not “given eternal agreement by any actor who has ever played a character I created”, calling this idea “ridiculous”. She added: “Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology. Such beliefs are legally protected, and I would not want to see any of them threatened with job loss, or violence, or death, because of them.”
