Edgar Wright revisits Running Man
For his novel Running ManPublished in 1982, Stephen King imagined a future in which the United States is run by a dictatorial government. The latter even organized some sadistic television games to discourage any possible rebellion among the population. Of which “The Great Hunt”a test during which a candidate is hunted down by assassins who can count on the rest of the population for thirty days. Hoping to win the huge sum of money at stake to save his sick daughter, Ben Richards decides to participate.
Stephen King’s novel has already been the subject of a film adaptation, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and published in 1987. Twenty-eight years later, Edgar Wright he is ready to reveal his Running Manthis time with Glen Powell in the main role.
Stephen King has been seduced
The team of Running Man went to New York Comic Con to present the film. As shown in a video shared on Paramount’s official Instagram accountduring the panel, Edgar Wright shared Stephen King’s enthusiastic reaction when the author discovered this new film adaptation of his novel:
He really liked the film. He told me, “It’s more faithful to the book to please the fans, but at the same time different enough to keep me entertained.”
During this panel, Edgar Wright explained that he actually wanted to accomplish something a more faithful adaptation to the novel than the film released in 1987. Because according to him “There was a whole part of the story that hadn’t been adapted”.
Ben Richards, the“definitive outsider”
At New York Comic Con, Glen Powell also talked about his character Running Man. In comments submitted by The Hollywood journalisthe described it as “the definitive outsider”. Because according to him, Ben Richards is “ a normal boy facing the most powerful oppressive system. So there isn’t no more big bets and less chance of escape ».
Also written by Edgar Wright Michael Bacall (Scott Pellegrino), Running Man will be released in just over a month. In France it will take control of cinemas next November 19th.
