The artist declared:

For the latter film, she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, she has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the new Black Widow in Thunderbolts* (2025).

Conveniently, the British actress had already made public her interest in playing Harry in the movies. In an interview during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2020 (via Entertainment Weekly), Pugh was asked which famous person she would like to play on screen. She replied:

“Blondie [Debbie Harry]because she’s so cool.”

Chances of it happening

Rumors of a Blondie biopic gained momentum in 2022, following an interview by Debbie Harry with Attitude magazine. At the time, the singer stated that she had been approached about authorization for the project.

“We’ve obviously thought about it and been approached. We need to find the right person to direct and think, ‘This person understands’, and then move forward – we’re on that path.”

At the time of this statement, the name speculated for the role was that of the American singer Miley Cyrus. Despite a joke about the ex-Hannah Montana be much bigger than hers, Debbie Harry stated her confidence in the artist’s ability to interpret it.
