The 4 songs that Guns N’ Roses had never played in Brazil until yesterday [21]

Band started national tour with a show in Greater Florianópolis; agenda includes visits to São Paulo (25/10), Curitiba (28/10), Cuiabá (31/10) and Brasília (02/11)

THE Guns N’ Roses started the Brazilian leg of the tour “Because What You Want and What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things”with a show last Tuesday, 21st. The outdoor area of Arena Opus, in Greater Florianópolis, hosted the band led by Axl Rose (voice), Slash (guitar) and Duff McKagan (bottom), as well as the more than 28 thousand people who gathered there to see them.

Lasting approximately 3 hours, the performance featured almost 30 songs. Hits like “Welcome to the Jungle”, “Paradise City”, “Sweet Child O’Mine”, “Patience”, “November Rain”, “You Could Be Mine”among others, were present in the setlist.

However, the appearance of four songs that had never been performed in Brazil in the other 35 shows that the group performed in the other nine visits drew attention. They are:

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath10th of the set. This is a cover of Black Sabbathperformed on the current tour as a way of paying homage to the vocalist Ozzy Osbournewho died last July;

The General12th of the set. It is the most recent release from Guns, available in December 2023 as a single. With psychedelic and trip hop influences, the track was created at the beginning of the album sessions Chinese Democracy (2008), between the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, but officially registered only in recent times, with Slash and Duff McKagan back;

Perhaps16th of the set. The group’s second most recent release, available in August 2023 also as a single. Like “The General” and its other predecessors — “Absurd” and “Hard Skool” —, is dated from the Chinese Democracy. Brings rare songwriting credit to Paul Tobiasguitarist who, unintentionally, caused the definitive rift between Axl Rose and Slash in the mid-1990s;

Prostitute18th of the set. Closing range Chinese Democracywas performed very rarely live as a whole, and on most occasions with Slash and Duff already back. Interestingly, it also had an authorial collaboration with Paul Tobias.

The new visit will be the first with the drummer Isaac Carpenter (former member of Awolnation, Loaded, Loudermilk and other projects), replacing Frank Ferrer, who left after 19 years of service.

After spending 2024 off the stage, GN’R recently returned with a tour of Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

In addition to Isaac Carpenter, Guns currently features Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Dizzy Reed (keyboards) and Melissa Reese (keyboards and synthesizers).
