Alexandre Astier is not satisfied with the first Kaamelott screened in theaters

Released in 2021, Kaamelott – Part one continues the story of the cult series many years after the last events told there. Exiled all this time, King Arthur returns to the island of BrittanyFrom now on ruled with an iron fist by the tyrant who became Lancelot du Lac. Determined to overthrow him, Arthur embarks on the mission of unite the rebel clans to help him in his task.

Kaamelott – Part one received mostly positive reception. ON Assignedhis rating among fans amounts to 3.4 out of 5 stars. The press gave him almost the same thing, with 3.3 out of 5 stars. Still, Alexandre Astier is not satisfied with the version shown in the cinema. And for good reason, it’s not what he wanted to show the public.

The director had to cut several scenes from the film

Alexandre Astier recently revealed Kaamelott – Second part part 1. Having chosen to dedicate his new issue to this film, First the director asked. The latter later revealed that he had been forced to shorten the first part. Because at the time the feature film came out, films must not exceed 2 hours :

The version people saw was the special Covid version. That is, the version that had to last less than two hours because the theaters hadn’t been operating for I don’t know how long, and five screenings a day were needed because the whole industry was in difficulty.

Alexandre Astier therefore had to do it cut several scenes during editing in order to shorten the film and make it reach the exact duration of 2 hours. According to the director, the version shown in theaters is “a quarter of an hour and twenty minutes” shorter compared to what he initially wanted to show.

He wants to be able to give fans his version

The interpreter of King Arthur admits this decision “He leaves with a bit of regret”. AND wishes one day to be able to show the full version of Kaamelott – Part onewith the scenes he was forced to cut. According to him, the release of this version will depend on the cost of the scenes to adapt :

It all depends on how much it will cost in post-production, because this version almost exists. I had it before Covid, but we have to finalize the special effects and everything. So he’s not far from being ready, but I still want to do it again, I still want to move up, I still want to be sure of my move. There’s actually a scene or two missing.

Alexandre Astier believes that the film shown in theaters is “a little indigestible”. Admitting that this bothers him, he wants to take the time to do it “fix it”. And ultimately, his ambition is to achieve replace the version released at the cinema with the one that would contain the new scenes. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed.

In any case, Kaamelott – Part Two, part 1 can be seen in theaters since last Wednesday, October 22nd.
