Hal Jordan and John Stewart will be at the center of the series Lanterns
Directed by James Gunn AND Pietro Safranthe first chapter of the new DC Universe, entitled “Gods and Monsters”was officially launched with the release of the first episodes of Commando of creatures in December 2024. Among the upcoming projects of this first chapter is the series Lanterns. As explained in May 2024, it will great importance within the new DC universe.
Created by Damon Lindeloff (Lost: the missing), Chris Mundy (Ozarks) and comics writer Tom Kingwhich the show will focus on two members of the Green Lanterns. Kyle Chandler (King Kong) AND Aaron Pierre (The morning show) will play two of the most popular characters among DC Comics fans. That is to say Hal Jordan AND John Stewart. Inspired by that of True detective, the tone of the series should be particularly dark.
A dynamic of “partner cops” between the two characters
Men’s health just published a new interview with Aaron Pierre. One of the topics it covers is Lanterns. The magazine interviewed Chris Mundy on the topic. And the showrunner explains that the series is “as much about partner cops as about superheroes”. And like many partner cop stories, the two main characters are presented as opposing forces :

In Lanterns, John Stewart demonstrates the strength of his character by resisting the urge to lose his temper and of “overcompensate”. He understands it “you lose your power if you start shouting”. And thus proves that he deserves the title of Green Lantern.
Aaron Pierre perfect for his role
According to Chris Mundy, Aaron Pierre manages to convey these ideas perfectly about his character. The showrunner believes it” There is a true innate balance » in the actor. It’s imposing and “an intimidating presence”but it also has “a sweetness” AND “a kindness” That “you can’t teach”.
The first season of Lanterns will have eight episodes. It should come out in 2026 on HBOMax. If its first eight episodes are successful among fans, it will undoubtedly be entitled to a sequel.
