Famous brands are popular in cinema
Film adaptations based on famous franchises met a real success these last two years in theaters. We can quote Super Mario Bros., the movie AND Barbieboth have become billionaires in 2023. This year it is Minecraft, the movie which unleashed passions, also grossing almost a billion dollars at the global box office.
Since then, Hollywood studios have taken over the licenses for Hot Wheels, Uno, Polly Pocket, Magic 8-Ball and even The Sims, which Margot Robbie. In the meantime we can discover the adaptation of the famous cartoon Hi Kitty on cinema screens.
“Hello Kitty” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2028
A movie Hi Kitty was first announced in March 2021. This announcement follows New Line’s acquisition of the film rights to the brand in 2019. For three years the project seemed to stagnate. Ultimately, perhaps it was the aforementioned successes that pushed the studio and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation past second place.
In a publication on Instagram, the two studios involved have just announced the release date of Hi Kitty at the cinema. This much awaited film is scheduled for release July 21, 2028 in American theaters. It could be a few days earlier for France, although the date yet to be specified.
“Hello Hollywood #HelloKittyMovie will be released in theaters on July 21, 2028. This film marks the Hollywood debut of Hello Kitty, who embarks with her friends on a cinematic adventure that is sure to delight viewers of all ages,” the caption reads.
Beau Flynn’s company, FlynnPictureCo, obtained the rights to the brand after ten years of negotiations with the Japanese company Sanrio. This is the first time the company transfers the adaptation rights of his iconic character.
Hello Kitty will be an animated film directed by Leo Matsuda, who worked on the film Zootropolis AND Wreck-It Ralph. It’s Dana Fox, behind the screenplay of Evilwho will officiate in its drafting. Warner Bros. will be able to achieve the same success the one with Barbie AND Minecraft ? Response in 2028.
