Ukraine: Sean Penn plans to take up arms to fight Russia

After going to Ukraine to make a documentary, Sean Penn thinks he will “take up arms to fight Russia.”

In February last year, Sean Penn traveled to the center of the conflict in Ukraine to shoot a documentary about the Russian invasion. Today the director thinks “Take up arms to fight Russia“.

In an interview with journalist Robert Ryan Hollywood authenticSean Penn explains that what he witnessed during the trip was to admire the Ukrainians who are fighting and trying to repel the invaders. The actor, who wants to raise Hollywood awareness about the war in Ukraine, wonders if his speeches and public speeches are enough.

While filming his documentary, Sean Penn met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, who also released a statement after their meeting.

The director arrived in Kyiv specially to record all the current events in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about the Russian invasion of our country. Sean Penn is among the supporters in Ukraine today. Our country is grateful for his bravery and honesty.“.

After threatening to win the Oscars if President Zelensky does not intervene in the awards ceremony, the actor is now planning to return to Ukraine.

Sean Penn explains:The only reason I would have stayed longer in Ukraine lately would have been to seize arms and fight. But without a bulletproof vest, because as a foreigner, you want to give it to one of the civilians who became a soldier and who does not have it.

“If you have been to Ukraine, you are definitely thinking about fighting. (…) I was in Brentwood yesterday, today I think I will take up arms against Russia.” He adds.

The actor explains:I’m not an idiot, I do not know what I can offer you. I do not spend time with the president or his team sending messages when they are under siege and killing their people.. “

A faithful man

This is not the first time the director of Into the Wild has been personally involved. In 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana, the actress went there to help survivors in New Orleans. Five years later he flew to Haiti after the earthquake to help rebuild the country. He also lived in a tent there for 9 months.

The Oscar-winning actor, along with CEO Ann Lee, also founded the nonprofit organization CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), which operates in disaster and war zones. CORE is currently in Poland assisting Ukrainian refugees. Commitment as portrayed in the documentary Citizen Penn, which airs on Discovery Plus.
