Natalie Portman’s new streaming series has suspended filming due to a violent threat

The production of the next limited series. lady in the lake suffered a scare at the end of last week, forcing filming to be suspended. The Apple TV + original, starring Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram, was shot in Baltimore, Maryland, and police say drug dealers tried to extort money from crew members and threatened with violence.

There was reportedly an attempt to extort $ 50,000 from the producers, but the filmmakers refused to pay. A spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department said:

lady in the lake is based on Laura Lippman’s novel of the same name, released in 2019. The story is set in 1960s Baltimore and Natalie Portman plays a woman named Maddie Schwartz who reinvents her life by leaving her 20-year marriage and finding a job as a journalist for a local newspaper after helping the police with a murder investigation. While searching for a story, she uncovers Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram), a missing black woman who was later found dead. Maddie is determined to find out who Cleo was, even as Cleo’s ghost opposes her life becoming an open book for the ambitious reporter.

lady in the lake turns as the sequel to Taika Waititi’s Natalie Portman Thor: love and thunder, which is still staged in theaters across the country. This is the first time she has starred in a live action series. Portman’s other upcoming projects include Todd Haynes May December with the animated film by Julianne Moore and Chris Prynoski cunning trotter.

Moses Ingram joined the cast of lady in the lake earlier this summer, replacing Lupita Nyong’o. She played a main antagonist in Star Wars Disney + series Obi-Wan Kenobi earlier this year, introducing the Inquisitor Reva character into the science fiction canon. She previously had a supporting role alongside Anya Taylor Joy on the Netflix limited series. The queen’s betand his film credits include Michael Bay Ambulance and that of Joe Coen Macbeth’s tragedy.

This is the second time in recent months that an upcoming TV show has dealt with crime. In July, it was reported that the Chicago-based production of Justified: Primordial City had to close when two gunned-down cars crashed into the barricades on the set. lady in the lake filming began in Baltimore in April and will continue through October. AppleTV + hasn’t officially announced streaming release plans for the limited series, but the production schedule means the episodes are expected to premiere in 2023.
