Russia sanctions 25 more Americans, including Sean Penn and Ben Stiller

Russia on Monday imposed personal sanctions on 25 Americans, including actors Sean Penn and Ben Stiller, in response to US sanctions against Russians over the Ukraine conflict.

US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo was on the new sanctions list, as were several US senators: Mark Kelly and Kirsten Sinema of Arizona, Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, Rick Scott of Florida and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the group, which also includes business leaders, academics and government officials, will be permanently banned from entering Russia.

Previous rounds of Russian sanctions against Americans have included President Joe Biden and members of his family, as well as lawmakers and business leaders. The United States has imposed sanctions on a number of Russians, including government officials and businessmen.

Penn and Stiller have been openly critical of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Penny is an activist involved in humanitarian work, among other causes. Stiller is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
