Death of Elizabeth II: When the Queen had tea with Paddington Bear

Although Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96, look back on her platinum jubilee last June and the anthology sequence with the famous Paddington Bear.

“Happy anniversary, ma’am. And thanks for everything.”

That’s what Paddington’s famous bear addressed to Queen Elizabeth II last June on the 70th anniversary of the sovereign’s reign, during a tender and touching scene created especially for the event. Although the Queen died this Thursday at the age of 96, the little pup’s official Twitter account also paid tribute to her.

Lasting around 2 minutes, the video, released in June and filmed at Buckingham Palace, showed the Queen sharing a cup of tea (and a marmalade sandwich) with Paddington. This famous little bear, a staple of the British imagination (created in 1958 by Michael Bond and the protagonist of two recent feature films), is not the only fictional character to have played the role of Elizabeth II.

Indeed, 10 years ago, at the 2012 London opening ceremony, the Queen also shared a memorable scene with James Bond (played by Daniel Craig). Further proof that the sovereign was neither lacking in humor nor second degree.
