Britney Spears Speaks Out After Christina Aguilera’s ‘Body Shaming’ Dancers React

Britney Spears is receiving criticism online for her recent comments on Instagram.

On Monday night, the “…Baby One More Time” singer took to the social media app to express her thoughts on body image, sharing an image of a quote from comedian Rodney Dangerfield that read, “I found there was just one way to look thin: go out. With fat together”.

At the bottom of the photo, Spears thought of pop star Christina Aguilera and said, “I wish I could choose babysitters for my kids…my dancers…I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would look so young. .. I. I mean, why don’t we talk about it?”

He continued, “Don’t you think my confidence would be a little better if I could choose where I lived, I ate, who I called, who I dated and who was on stage with me? Sometimes it’s hard for me, now I see how much femininity was taken away from me back then and everyone sat and said nothing.

The 40-year-old singer added that she will use her Instagram to express herself and “be here talking about things people have never talked about.”

Although Spears used the post in part to discuss her injury, fans took to the comments section to report that her caption read of Aguilera’s body shame and general fatphobia, urging her to remove the post.

One commenter wrote: “Oops. I love Brits, but this tasted bad. Body shaming to feel better isn’t what’s at stake”, while another fan added: “I agree with your title but sorry Britney this post is so fat in itself. is not cool? Plus-size model and body positivity activist Tess Holliday also shared her two cents, adding, “Oh no girl it’s not.”

In Spears’s next post, a fan wrote: “Use your freedom for good, not to shame Christina, you know, the girl you grew up with and the community showed you their support.”

Following the backlash, Spears wrote a separate post clarifying that she did not intend to judge Aguilera’s body in her post, insisting she has nothing but support.

“I was in no way criticizing Christina’s beautiful body, is what it is! I once flew in to see her show and the main thing I noticed was the difference between our people on stage! In no way did I mention Christina, check my post!!!” exclaimed Spears. “I was inspired by her show and she is a beautiful and empowered woman…thanks @xtina for inspiring me!!!”

The “Stronger” singer also revealed that she struggles with her own body image and as such will not intentionally shame others for her physical appearance.

“To be honest, I’m not trying to criticize anyone. What I posted is a projection of the insecurities I constantly deal with because of how my parents and the media treated me… I would never intentionally embarrass anyone because I know how they feel… I struggle with it. How I feel about myself, not because I hate the way someone else looks,” Spears added. “I feel like my family knew I was insecure and people tried to attack that insecurity by not giving me a choice about who I was on stage with. I thank you all for understanding me as I navigate this new life I am living!”

The singer’s original post remains on her Instagram page to date. Read the full story and watch the comments below.
