ESPN is a founding partner and sponsor of the Black Sports Business Symposium, which aims to create new opportunities for a variety of professionals in the sports world and increase black representation in the industry.
Founded by HBCU Battle of the Brains Founder and CEO Gregory Gibson Jr., NFL Network Senior Correspondent Steve Weich, and Los Angeles Rams COO Kevin Demoff, the inaugural event is scheduled for May 16-December 18. June in Atlanta.
ESPN will host several events during the symposium and also plans to hire professionals at all stages of their careers. ESPn executives, on-air talent and athletes represented on upcoming ESPN projects are scheduled to be announced. Additionally, ESPN also mentions the symposium on air and across its marketing and social channels along with other creative teams “throughout the year.
“It is essential that the sports industry reflect the diversity of the athletes who play and the fans who support,” said James Pitaro, president of ESPN Sports Content, in a statement about the partnership. “We are pleased to establish this multi-year partnership with the Black Sports Business Symposium to support their important work and further our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Together, we can provide a roadmap for those interested in the esports business, and we look forward to many talented symposium attendees on the ESPN team.”
