Chrissy Teigen says she aborted to ‘save the life of a baby who had absolutely no chance’

Chrissy Teigen admitted on Thursday that the miscarriage she said she had two years ago was actually a miscarriage, which came as a surprise to her.

Teigen and her husband John Legend announced that in September 2020 they lost their son, Jack, at 20 weeks due to pregnancy complications. At the time they said he was an abortion.

Speaking at social impact agency Propper Daley’s “Unreasonable Talk Day” summit on Thursday, Teigen said the fact that it was an abortion surprised her.

“Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make many difficult and painful decisions. Halfway through it became very clear that she would not survive and neither would I without medical intervention,” he said.

Teigen, who shares 6-year-old Luna and 4-year-old Miles with Legend and is currently pregnant, noted that she has had excellent medical care and support from loving friends and family. He also thanked strangers who showed their support after the couple broke the news.

He continued, discussing his miscarriage before stopping. “Let’s call it what it was: it was a miscarriage,” said the star. “Abortion to save the life of a child who didn’t have a chance. And to be honest, I never really did that together until a few months ago. “

Teigen said he understood after the Supreme Court overturned it. Roe vs Wade earlier this summer. He told Legend that he felt compassion for the people who had abortions and the circumstances they had to go through and the emotional decision “they” had to make when Legend realized he was, in fact, one of those people.

“I shut up, it felt weird because it didn’t make any sense,” Teigen said. “I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage. And I was really disappointed that I didn’t say what it was from the start, and I felt stupid because it took me over a year to find out that we had an abortion.”

Teigen was giving a talk called “We Made This Decision”. The invite-only event is produced in partnership with cultural change agency Invisible Hand. the hollywood reporter as a media partner – was held at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills and featured a full day of programming designed to connect writers, producers and television executives with agents of cultural change.
