David Fincher has “only” eleven movies under his belt from “Alien3” to “Mank”. But we still wanted to offer you a quiz on the filmography of this director.
“Bambooleooooo, bamboleaaaaaaaaaa”. No, the author of these lines has not passed away, we are going to talk about David Fincher. Because you might not know, but it was the director of Fight Club who signed the music video for the famous Gipsy Kings song. And it was not the only one, because before the start of his career on the big screen, the American shot about fifty music videos for famous artists, including Madonna, Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson. We owe him, for example, videos An Englishman in New York (Sting, 1988), Fashion (Madonna, 1990) Or Freedom 90 (George Michael, 1990).
It was only in 1992 that he returned to feature films and received the difficult task of replacing Ridley Scott and James Cameron and directing the third opus in the Alien saga. We find Lt. Ellen Ripley, still played by SIgourney Weaver, who this time finds herself with her companions on the prison planet Furia 161, a sort of penal mining colony. And of course, all these lovely people are accompanied by the famous xenomorph.
If the film – which is a nightmare for a young filmmaker to make – was met with mixed reviews upon release, the next seven will catapult David Fincher into the big leagues. We follow the investigation of Inspectors David Mills (Brad Pitt) and William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) who are confronted with a series of murders that soon turn out to be connected to the Seven Deadly Sins. The film would also mark the first real starring role for up-and-coming star Brad Pitt, whom Fincher returned to for The Summit four years later. Fight Club and in 2008 for the curious case of Benjamin Button.
If David Fincher has been quite cautious recently with only two films in eight years (Gone Girl 2014 and Mank 2020), we should find him directing this year in The Killer starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. In the meantime, take a look at the director’s career with this quiz, where you’ll have to identify seven of his eleven films.
