Netflix supports Arab female directors and brings together an Arab foundation based in Lebanon for a new arts and culture grant.
A one-time grant of US$250,000 from the Creative Capital of the Netflix Foundation, created in 2021 to invest in companies less representative of the entertainment industry, will be awarded to producers and directors in the Arab world, with five projects selected.
“We are ready to tell stories about women and women in the Arab world,” Nuha al-Taybi, director of content buying at Netflix for MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and Turkey, wrote in a blog post announcing the initiative to launch. “The Arab world has a long history of women in entertainment, and we’ve had incredible, unprecedented success in the region, which we’re all proud of. But to allow more people to see her life on screen, we need more women behind and in front of the camera.”

The investment marks the second time Netflix has partnered with AFAC since establishing two foundations that need to help workers in the region during a coronavirus pandemic.
