On the US Department of Defense website, Stars and Stripes, reveals that on the day of his death, July 4, he was in the vicinity of a famous diving spot located in Okinawa. That day, due to bad weather, the sea was particularly tired. Three people in the water were in distress and threatened to drown.
A US Army major on the scene, Robert Bourgeau, then jumped into the water to save the three men from drowning. He manages to save two of them; Mother and her daughter. Kazuki Takahashi tried to help the latter by taking turns jumping into the water. But he was swept away by the waves and disappeared.
His body was found two days later in Nago, a few kilometers northeast of Ona. “It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, I really thought I wasn’t going to do it.
