And It’s Not Honey: One Ingredient Turns Tea Into A Sore Throat Remedy

A sore throat is an unpleasant symptom that ruins our lives with fever, weakness and a runny nose.

The throat can get sick for any reason – this is a non-specific symptom that accompanies various diseases, including covid.

Don’t take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

But most often we worry not about why the throat hurts, but about what to do so that the throat does not hurt. And in our arsenal there is a huge amount of lollipops, potions, hot milk with butter, tea with honey and other folk remedies.

Some are no more effective than placebos, but some work. So, hot tea and other hot drinks with a sore throat help and relieve the disease. Regular intake of hot liquid causes the walls of the blood vessels in the throat to expand and the throat muscles to relax, which relieves some of the pain. In general, a hot drink for colds and sore throats is really something that can help.

But are all teas the same? Scientists conducted a randomized, double-blind study – and it’s a very serious approach – to figure out that tea containing licorice root, also known as licorice, is best for sore throats.

If you are one of those who love licorice (and almost no one seems to be indifferent to it), then do not hesitate to drink tea with it when you have a cold and you will notice that the improvement will come much faster.
