The announcement of the 2022 Tony Awards nominations has been delayed by nearly a week, the show’s producers announced on Friday.
Announcement of nominations has been delayed from May 3 to May 9. The change also extended the show’s window of authority for the 2021-2022 season from April 28 to May 4.
“Due to the challenges that Broadway has faced in recent weeks, and to allow nominees to see shows of appropriate tone, we have decided to extend the eligibility requirements,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League and Heather. Hitchens, president and CEO of the American Theater Wing, in a joint statement.
Nominations will be announced again on the official Tony Awards YouTube page at 9am ET / 6pm
Last month, Broadway saw the cancellation of several shows between various companies and their famous stars due to the COVID-19 incident gap. Top Broadway performers who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 include MacbethDaniel Craig and Plaza SuitesSarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.
Presented by the Broadway League and American Theater Wing in 2022, Tonys announced in March that it would return to a private ceremony at New York’s Radio City Music Hall after canceling the show in 2020 due to a pandemic and hosting a minor. A personal ceremony at the Winter Garden Theater last September.
The 75th Annual Awards will be broadcast live for the first time from beach to beach, with a four-hour presentation that will split the streaming service between Paramount+ and CBS. For the first hour at 7pm ET / 4pm PT, the content stream will be exclusive to Paramount+ only. Awards will continue at 8pm ET / 5pm PT live on CBS and live on demand on Paramount+.
