Vice President Kamala Harris tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, the White House said, emphasizing the existence of a highly contagious virus even as the United States eases restrictions to return to pre-pandemic normalcy.
The White House said Tuesday that Harris tested positive for rapid tests and PCR and said he had “no symptoms”. Harris will be isolated at his residence but will continue to work remotely and will return to the White House only after a negative test for the virus.
Harris, 57, received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine a week before taking office and the second dose a few days after his inauguration in 2021. He received the booster in late October and an additional booster on April 1st. . Fully vaccinated and enhanced humans have a high degree of protection against serious illness and death from COVID-19, especially from the more common and highly contagious Omicron variant.
The White House said that neither President Joe Biden nor First Lady Jill Biden had been considered a “close contact” of Harris in recent days.
