4 signs you should give up coffee for a while

Understand how much caffeine is considered normal.

Don’t take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

Many people start their day with a cup of coffee. It helps to wake up, cheer up and feel better. However, you should be extremely careful with the drink, as its abuse can be harmful to health. How to understand that you love coffee too much, says “Medic Forum”.

How much coffee can you drink daily?

Coffee contains many biologically active compounds, including caffeine. One cup contains about 100 milligrams of this substance. Researchers consider 400 milligrams of caffeine to be a safe dose. That is, without fear, you can drink about four cups a day. A single serving of caffeine should not exceed 200 milligrams.

How do you know if you should drink less coffee?

In total, experts identify four signs that will indicate that it is time to reduce the use of the drink or completely abandon it for a while, among them:

  1. Stomach pains. This is because caffeine relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter. This, in turn, paves the way for stomach acid into the esophagus.
  2. Sleep problems. You should stop drinking coffee about six hours before bedtime, this will ensure you have a good healthy rest.
  3. withdrawal syndrome. In other words, it’s a coffee addiction. If you feel that without this drink, the day is going badly, then you have developed a habit. It is worth getting rid of it gradually: reduce the dose of caffeine consumed again and again until the addiction disappears completely.
  4. Weight gain. Coffee causes a feeling of satiety, so a person, having drunk a cup of this drink, can refuse a full meal. However, when this feeling of satiety is gone, hunger can be felt very acutely. This often leads to overeating and weight gain.
