Creator of The Last of Us series alongside Neil Druckmann, Craig Mazin explained how faithfulness to the original game was essential to the script
Since games began to receive adaptations in TV series and cinemas, few productions managed to be successful with the public and critics – and the series of The Last of Us seems to fit into this select group, according to Craig Mazinone of those responsible for adapting the HBO.
It is worth remembering how most of the adaptations of games for the live action were criticized for their lack of fidelity to the source material, as well as problems with script and direction. However, how mazin explained in a round table with the participation of Rolling Stone Brazil and other press vehicles, the series of The Last of Us respect (quite a lot) the 2013 game created by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley.

“Every decision we made, I made with Neil, you know, before we wrote the scripts,” explained the executive. “We had planned the whole season, we went through all these things. Occasionally, though, I’d call and say, ‘OK, Neil, I had a crazy idea. And then he’d listen, and nine times out of ten, he’d say, ‘Yeah, let’s do this. I like it.'”
Then, Craig Mazin revealed as himself Neil Druckmann he was quite fond of some of the new ideas for the series: “That’s the comfort of knowing Neil is there, right? He won’t let me spoil anything. So we push ourselves and find new layers. But we never break what’s essential or true to the game.”
“It is going to be beautiful, terrifying, but ultimately enlightening.”
