Enterotypes: what they are and how to eat well with each of them

Why can’t some girls live without sweets, while others choose traditional “male” food – grilled steaks and ribs?

Scientists have discovered that the reason is in your enterotype. It turns out that the human intestine supports one of three ecosystems, and the characteristics of digestion depend on it. The intestines are inhabited by up to ten trillion bacteria! Thus, it represents one of the most complex biosystems in the universe.

Your enterotype is a kind of individual signature that determines the functioning of the body as a whole. Study the descriptions of each enterotype and identify yours.

“Bacteroides” type

Do you like meat, poultry, seafood, are you tempted by butter and cream cakes? This is the so-called Western diet, the adherents of which form the “bacteroid” enterotype.

Your features

The good news is that the bacteria in your gut are great at fermenting sugar into protein, so you can afford both a cake and a barbecue. The bacteroid system easily synthesizes vitamin C and group B, as a result – good immunity and a stable nervous system. Your metabolism is excellent and the bacteria in your gut can break down toxins. But with this enterotype, the digestive system works with an increased load.

Your nutritional program:

  • Remember to eat vegetables and fruits with meat.
  • Even desserts are perfectly burned by your body, but always try not to exceed the recommended amount of sugar – 5 teaspoons per day.
  • Focus on the “food pyramid”: 40% of the products must be complex carbohydrates (wholemeal bread, cereals, cereals, pasta), 35% – vegetables and fruits, 20% – proteins (meat, poultry, fish, dairy) and only 5% – fat and sugar.

Prevotelle type

Are you a strict vegetarian or do you just like vegetables and grains more than meat? With such nutrition, a second enterotype is formed – “prevotella”.

Your features

Here are the benefits of your enterotype: Bacteria in the gut are excellent at processing sugar and carbohydrates, providing the body with vitamin B1 and folic acid. But an imbalance of prevotella bacteria increases the risk of developing peptic ulcers and stress on the mucous membrane, so do not relax. Correcting the minuses of this enterotype will help the principles of proper nutrition, which suits you.

Your nutritional program:

  • Most important: make sure the body gets enough protein (we need 100-120g per day). It is the building material through which cells are renewed and muscles are maintained.
  • If you eat little meat and poultry, be sure to include vegetable proteins in your diet – they are rich in legumes, nuts, seeds, soy.

Ruminococcus type

Can’t imagine your life without sweets, pasta and crackers? Most likely, you have a third enterotype – “ruminococci”.

Your features

Congratulations: people of this type have excellent digestion. But the bacteria in your gut are great at metabolizing sugar, which makes you more likely to be overweight and changes the way glucose is broken down. But the cells of your intestines produce folic acid and vitamin B1 perfectly, which reduces the risk of cancer and strengthens the immune system.

Your nutritional program:

  • Limit the sugar! Do not exceed the recommended amount of 5 teaspoons per day.
  • If you have a sweet tooth and can’t imagine life without chocolate and ice cream, avoid foods with added sugar. These are semi-finished products, fast food, sauces, preserves. Did you know that sugar is even added to ketchup? Read labels carefully for hidden sugars. Then you can indulge in desserts and still consume less sweets.
  • Eat desserts in the morning to ensure you burn calories.
