The Last of Us’ second episode brought iconic scenes from the game in a new way

[Atenção: Contém spoilers de The Last of Us]

The second episode of The Last of Us aired on Sunday, the 22nd, and brought to life impressive moments from the game of the same name. Unlike the first chapter, which expanded the game’s plot, but brought events faithfully, in the second week, the series HBO explored narrative more freely in controversial scenes.

The main change between the episode and the game is the death of Tess (Anna Torv). After an intense journey to get to the congress in the city, the trio completed by Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) comes across a group of dead Fireflies. The members of the resistance would be in charge of crossing the country with Ellie to find scientists who were looking for a vaccine or cure for the infection.

As they debated the next steps, Tess revealed that she was bitten by an infected on the way and asks that Joel follow with Ellie. With the arrival of a horde of infected to the building, the smuggler claims that she will try to buy time and stays behind to set herself and the creatures on fire.

Having trouble lighting a lighter, Tess gets paralyzed. An infected approaches her and “kisses” her, inserting the tendrils of the fungus into her mouth. She finally manages to light the fire and, with the flammable liquid thrown to the ground, manages to burn the creatures that arrived at the congress.

In the game, the character is also bitten on the way to the location. However, the combat is against Fedra humans. She sacrifices herself to gain time to Joel and Elliebeing killed in a few seconds by agents of the authoritarian organization. Tess even mentions the desire not to become infected.

Connected Infected

Another new concept introduced by the HBO series was the connection between all those infected by the cordyceps fungus. When stepping on the tendrils left by monsters, for example, hundreds of other runners and clickers will know the exact location and try to get closer, as happened in the congress scene.

Spores, another form of infection presented by the game, have yet to be seen in the TV production.
