The Last of Us: Fate of Bill and Frank is VERY different in the game; know how it is

Entitled “Long, Long Time,” the thrilling third episode of The Last of Us was transmitted by HBO and arrived at the catalog of HBO Max in the last Sunday. For the first time, the audience did not follow the protagonists Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), but could see the love story between Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) – and this arc was very different from the original game.

the series of HBO is based on the 2013 game of the same name, directed by Neil Druckmann (who is one of those responsible for the adaptation alongside Craig Mazin) and Bruce Straley. In the source material, the part of Bill it happens at the same moment in the narrative, but in a very different way.

In the series, Joel goes to his old friend’s town Bill to get a car and travel with Ellie by the United States. So the audience goes back 20 years in time to see Bill at the beginning of the devastating pandemic of Cordyceps. Since “normal times,” he has always been a paranoid person and already had apocalypse preparedness.

When the city is evacuated in the first month of the pandemic, Bill builds fortified fences and begins to live isolated in a large area. However, on a certain day, the character captures someone in one of the traps outside the city, and this mysterious person is Frank.

Bill he is a very private person, but he left Frank come in to shower and eat. However, the two begin to develop a deeper relationship – and Frank starts to live in the city. So audiences see the couple over the course of 20 years, from their fights and reconciliations to their deaths in their old age.

When Joel and Ellie arrive in the city, it is empty and without Frank and Billwho leave a beautiful letter for the character of Pedro Pascal – and invites him to take whatever he needs from the place. Shaken by the deaths, Joel takes the car and supplies (besides taking a shower) and continues his journey.

How is the story of Bill and Frank in The Last of Us game?

In the 2013 game, Joel and Ellie also need a car to continue their trip and go to the city of Billwhich has several explosive and deadly traps to intercept infected and humans with bad intentions.

Although, Bill is alive when they get there – and complains that Joel need a car from his city. One of the coolest parts of this arc is the relationship of Bill and Elliewho don’t get along well and are constantly offended, something that, unfortunately, we don’t see in the series.

Some time later in town, the player discovers that Bill lived with a person named Frankwho took her own life because she could no longer bear to live with Bill. In the letter he wrote to leave beside the body, Frank explained how he “hated” his partner and “wanted a better life.”

This change is quite impressive, but even so, the series of The Last of Us managed to tell a beautiful and different story about two people, who managed to withstand an apocalypse thanks to each other’s support.
