Snap, Snapchat’s parent company, has launched a venture capital that aims to have 50% of the owners or leaders of its Snap Originals talent, team and producer within the next three years be women and/or historically underrepresented backgrounds.
“Our equity partnership pledge is another step in Snap’s ongoing commitment to driving profound systemic change in the entertainment and technology industries,” said Vanessa Guthrie, original content manager at Snap. hollywood reporter. “Our goal is to model inclusive narratives, on and off camera, in our Snap Originals, and we are proud to work with producers who share that commitment.
Launched ahead of Snap’s first performance at NewFronts Jazz at Lincoln Center, the pledge brought support from Snap Originals partners including Propagate Content, Unanimous Media, 44 Blue Productions, Maven and Future Studios and more.
“We take our partnership and our responsibility seriously,” said Guthrie. “Our aim is not only to take responsibility for ourselves, but also to inspire other companies to set barriers to diversity, equality and inclusion.
The social media company also announced two new unwritten originals on Tuesday, featuring Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, content producer Propagate Big Breakfast, and Kids at Play and Snap creator La’Ron Hines, producer Leopard USA. Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio Against Charlie Dix (Westbrook Media and Five All In The Fifth Entertainment) has also been updated for a second season.
