The forbidden period for intermittent fasting: when and why to give up the popular weight loss diet

Every day, intermittent fasting has more and more followers. However, sometimes women should abandon the 16/8 nutrition system – otherwise you can greatly harm your health.

Have you ever tried intermittent fasting? We hardly believe you! For several years, this electrical system has been breaking unimaginable popularity records. Stars admit that they lose weight only due to hourly refusal of food, and ordinary women, in addition to losing kilograms, find a lot of advantages in the strict discipline of this system. So, it is proven that thanks to intermittent fasting you can not only lose weight, but also get rid of bad eating habits, as well as improve the quality of the body – we talked about this in more detail here.

Scientists are still debating the benefits of intermittent fasting and believe that harsher versions of the technique – with the refusal of food for more than 16 hours – are not suitable for everyone. However, the classic 16/8 pattern is also considered unsuitable for everyday use. And more specifically, for the menstrual period.

Currently, research on the relationship between hunger and menstruation is insufficient. And yet, experts believe that interval feeding can negatively affect the functioning of the female hormonal system.

On ordinary days, our body reacts more calmly to undernutrition, unbalanced diet and lack of various trace elements. But at the beginning of the cycle, all this can lead to discomfort and a change in the amount of blood loss. That is why on the days of menstruation it is better to reduce the number of hours without food, as well as increase the number of foods rich in water and fiber: green vegetables, cucumbers and some types of fruits.

However, you should never forget that proper intermittent fasting is not the same as unsystematic food consumption during the hours allowed for it. This approach is fraught with overeating and a lack of beneficial nutrients. Try to make your diet more balanced. In this case, it will become easier to starve – and the results of the 16/8 system will appear on your figure faster!
