Xênia França confirmed for Varanda de Nazaré in Belém

Latin Grammy-winning singer Xênia França will participate in the 16th edition of Varanda de Nazaré in Belém between October 9 and 11. The Bahian artist is joining the traditional cultural initiative held during the annual Círio de Nazaré celebrations in the capital of Pará state in northern Brazil.

França will appear as one of the featured guests of veteran Brazilian singer Fafá de Belém. Her scheduled itinerary in the Amazonian capital includes participation in the Sarau da Fafá musical gathering, the Romaria Fluvial river procession, the Trasladação night parade, and the main Varanda de Nazaré event.

The upcoming appearances mark França's return to Brazil following a period of international performances abroad. In July, the singer presented her live show titled Tudo Sobre o Amor at the Festival Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents in France.

França is a recognized voice in contemporary Brazilian popular music, known for incorporating Afropop, soul, and jazz into her work. Her host, Fafá de Belém, is a prominent cultural figure from Pará who created the Varanda de Nazaré to bring artists and public personalities together during the state's most important annual gathering.

Schedule of events in Belém

During her time in the city, França will take part in a multi-day schedule accompanying the religious calendar. The centerpiece of her visit takes place on Sunday at the Estação das Docas, a restored port complex along the waterfront of Guajará Bay that serves as a major cultural venue in Belém.

The Varanda de Nazaré reaches its 16th edition this year, established as one of the hallmark cultural spaces of the Círio season. The initiative brings together national guests to experience the regional traditions, music, and cuisine alongside the religious devotion taking place across the city.

França's schedule begins with the Sarau da Fafá, followed by participation in two of the festival's largest public processions. The Romaria Fluvial brings hundreds of decorated boats onto the waters surrounding Belém, while the Trasladação sees hundreds of thousands of pilgrims line the streets for a nocturnal procession on the eve of the main feast day.

The Círio de Nazaré tradition

Celebrated for more than two centuries, the Círio de Nazaré is one of the largest religious manifestations in Brazil and among the biggest Catholic gatherings in the world. Centered around the devotion to Our Lady of Nazareth, the event draws millions of pilgrims and visitors to the streets of Belém each year.

The festival features a series of solemn processions and pilgrimages during the period leading up to the second Sunday of October. In 2014, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially recognized the Círio de Nazaré as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, citing its deep cultural and spiritual significance to the region.

The month of October transforms Belém into a focal point of faith and Amazonian heritage. Through cultural platforms like Fafá de Belém's Varanda de Nazaré, invited artists like França join local residents in celebrating a centuries-old tradition that defines the identity of Pará.
