Zara heeled loafers lead autumn 2026 fashion trend shift

Zara has released a viral 60-euro mustard heeled loafer as 1960s executive footwear becomes a major trend for the autumn 2026 fashion season.

Zara heeled loafers lead autumn 2026 fashion trend shift

Heeled loafers featuring a comfortable, sensible heel have emerged as one of the defining footwear trends for autumn 2026, offering a blend of elegance and practical comfort for women seeking timeless seasonal style.

The updated silhouette marks a dramatic shift for traditional loafers by incorporating a modest heel that stylises the leg without sacrificing everyday wearability.

Loafers have long served as a classic staple in autumn wardrobes for women looking for durable elegance without needing to replace their footwear every season. High-profile fashion figures, including American actress Katie Holmes, have consistently showcased autumn loafer looks on city streets.

The new heeled design is building momentum as a prominent micro-trend, appearing on Paris Fashion Week runways, in street-style looks worn by fashion editors, and across affordable Spanish high-street brands.

Spanish clothing giant Zara, the flagship brand of the Inditex fashion group headquartered in Arteixo, Galicia, has embraced the movement by bringing luxury-inspired footwear to high-street shoppers. The design is not entirely new, but rather a revival of 1960s footwear trends, when women first began wearing loafers with elevated heels alongside traditional flat-soled versions.

Reviving retro executive style

The sensible-heel loafer carries a retro executive aesthetic reminiscent of women's tailoring from the 1960s through the 1990s, updated with modern design details.

By incorporating a subtle heel, the design creates a feminine finish while adding extra height. American actress Dakota Johnson, known for her casual street-style wardrobe, is among the celebrities frequently spotted incorporating classic loafers into contemporary outfits.

Fashion analysts note that the footwear offers versatile styling combinations across different wardrobe choices. The shoes can be paired with straight-leg jeans so only the rounded toe shows to create a leg-lengthening visual effect, styled with leather skirts for a business look, or worn with capri trousers for a vintage feel.

The footwear also works well when combined with bohemian blouses and straight-leg denim, or paired with bow-tie shirts and knee-length bermuda shorts for office and casual settings.

Zara launches viral mustard loafers

A search conducted by the lifestyle editorial desk at Spanish daily newspaper La Razón identified one of the season's most viral shoe models at Zara for 60 euros.

While traditional loafers are typically worn in neutral shades such as black or white, the popular Zara model features a mustard yellow tone designed to coordinate with both basic and vibrant color palettes.

The Zara shoe presents a traditional silhouette with a rounded toe, a small decorative strap across the vamp flap, and a sensible heel measuring approximately six centimetres.

Despite the added height, the mid-height heel is designed to prevent foot pain or fatigue over a full day of wear. The heel proportion adds slenderness to the figure and creates an optical lengthening effect on the legs.

Autumn celebrity and royal footwear trends

The shift toward heeled loafers coincides with broader footwear developments reported across Spain's fashion sector. Queen Letizia of Spain recently departed for an official visit to Finland wearing a six-year-old plaid suit paired with classic flat loafers and a headband, while Spanish actress Paz Vega highlighted a 40-euro shoe design replacing traditional loafers for transitional autumn weather.

Elsewhere in autumn style, Spanish actress Paula Echevarría showcased an 18-euro floral miniskirt from Irish fast-fashion retailer Primark styled with knee-high boots, and singer Rosalía was seen in New York wearing a pink dress from luxury label Erdem paired with spiked ballerina flats. Meanwhile, French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton unveiled five major footwear and apparel trends for spring 2027 during Paris Fashion Week.
