Australian children's comedy-drama series Round The Twist is back! The iconic 90's programme has been acquired by ITVX

The television programme, based on the imaginative stories of children's author Paul Jennings, follows Tony Twist, the long-suffering father, and his three children, 14-year-old twins Pete and Linda, and eight-year-old Bronson. The family moves into an old, haunted lighthouse on the rugged Australian coast, which is only the start of their adventures. The series became renowned for its outlandish mysteries and the outrageous, slapstick comedy adventures of the wacky Twist family.

Broadcast history

Round The Twist originally aired for four seasons in total. The first two series were broadcast between 1989 and 1993, with the final two airing from 2000 to 2001.

The programme made its premiere in the early 1990s on the BBC's Broom Cupboard, a popular afternoon children's television block on BBC One in the United Kingdom.

The series creator said they did not realise how well known the show was outside of Australia when they started writing it.

"It was probably even bigger in the UK than it is in Australia," the creator said. "It premiered on the BBC first, because Channel Seven was dragging their feet about airing it - so the BBC had already aired it, and was already asking for a second season, before Australia had even seen it."

Cast reunions and careers

The show was previously adapted into a musical spin-off in Australia, titled Round the Twist: The Musical. More than two decades after the hit programme, three actresses who played Linda Twist at various times attended the production and posed for a rare photograph together last year to celebrate the show's ongoing success.

Tamsin West, 52, originally starred as Linda and sang the show's theme tune. She quit acting in 1995 after briefly appearing in the long-running Australian soap opera Neighbours.

Joelene Crnogorac, 47, played Linda for a short while during the second series. She later starred in the Australian police drama Blue Heelers, as well as Neighbours. She also acted alongside Australian heartthrobs Hugh Jackman and Guy Pearce in the historical drama series Snowy River: The McGregor Saga.

Ebonnie Masini, 42, took over the role of Linda in the third and fourth series. She also appeared in Blue Heelers before turning her hand to fashion designing.

He has also directed nine episodes of the acclaimed American sitcom Modern Family, as well as episodes of Neighbours and The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon.
