Anna Vissi delays Athens shows over Nikos Karvelas dispute

Greek singer Anna Vissi has postponed her return to Athens nightlife following a breakdown in her personal and professional partnership with composer Nikos Karvelas.

The conflict between the two long-time collaborators escalated shortly after Vissi held a major concert at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens. Reporting on the Star television show Protos Kafes me ti Zina revealed that communication channels between both sides have been cut.

Efforts were made by lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos to reach an out-of-court settlement before official announcements were made. However, the broadcast stated that the dispute between Vissi and Karvelas is now heading irrevocably to court.

Vissi is a celebrated Greek pop artist born in Cyprus whose career spans more than four decades. Karvelas, a prominent Greek composer and songwriter who was previously married to Vissi, wrote many of her most famous songs. The venue where they recently performed, the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens in Marousi, is the largest stadium complex in the country.

Postponed performances and team departure

Following the stadium concert, television presenter Grigoris Goundaras reported that Vissi addressed her regular team of musicians and working partners directly. Vissi told her collaborators that they were free to seek work elsewhere, as her upcoming series of performances at the Athens Arena venue had been postponed.

The decision delays the singer's planned return to the Athens night scene from February 2027 to autumn 2027. Athens Arena is a major music hall in the capital known for hosting large winter concert residencies. The steps taken by Vissi were described as an intentional effort to protect her stage collaborators after she anticipated the upcoming legal complications.

To step away from the immediate pressure, journalist Dionysis Thanasoulas reported on the same television show that Vissi traveled abroad for a two-day trip. She took the short journey alongside her close friend and collaborator Dimitra Kousta to gain distance from the ongoing tension.
