Actress Anya Taylor-Joy will star in a new Netflix series adapted from the Bella Mackie novel How to Kill Your Family.
The eight-episode production follows Grace Bernard, the estranged daughter of a ruthless billionaire, as she plots an elaborate revenge scheme against her paternal family.
Taylor-Joy will also serve as an executive producer on the project through her production banner, LadyKiller Productions.
In the story, Grace grows up largely cast aside by her father's family after her father, billionaire Simon Artemis, claims he has no memory of the relationship he had with her mother.
Following her mother's death and years of rejection from the relatives who should have supported her, Grace transforms her grief into a meticulous plan for vengeance.
Her objective is to eliminate her family members using the most creative and macabre methods possible, while simultaneously securing a substantial inheritance.
Netflix described the project as a blend of violence and dark humour, centered on an unusual antihero who must ultimately confront the consequences of her lethal mission.
Cast and production team
Joining Taylor-Joy in the main cast are Clive Owen, Orlando Norman and David Shields. Owen, an Academy Award-nominated actor known for his roles in film and television, joins the ensemble as the series prepares for production.
Emma Moran, the creator of the acclaimed comedy series Extraordinary, is writing the script for the adaptation and will serve as an executive producer.
Author Bella Mackie will also join the team as a co-executive producer. Her source novel, published in 2021, has sold more than 1.2 million copies worldwide.
Filming and background context
Taylor-Joy is widely known to Netflix audiences for her breakout starring role in the hit miniseries The Queen's Gambit. She has also voiced Princess Peach in two Super Mario animated feature films released by Nintendo, and played the younger version of Imperator Furiosa in the action film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Filming for How to Kill Your Family is scheduled to begin this autumn. Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date for the series.
