Actress Barbara Bosson, known for her role as Fay Furillo in the series ‘Chumbo Grosso’ (Hill Street Blues), died on Saturday (2/18) in Los Angeles, at the age of 83.
She was part of the main cast of the crime series from 1981 to 1986, playing Fay Furillo, the ex-wife of police captain Frank Furillo (Daniel J. Travanti).
The actress received five Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series during her run on the series. Subsequently, she was nominated again in the same category in 1995 for “Murder One,” which depicted the life of a prominent lawyer in a Los Angeles office.
Bosson, who was a Playboy bunny before becoming an actress, had success in four ABC series. After leaving “Chumbo Grosso,” she was promoted to head of the police department for the lead character, a detective played by John Ritter who inherits an apartment building in the comedy-drama “Hooperman” (1987-89). She then became mayor of Los Angeles in the musical drama “Cop Rock” (1989). And she made a name for herself again as prosecutor Miriam Grasso in the courtroom drama “Murder One” (1995-1997).
All of the shows in which she excelled were created by her husband, producer Steven Bochco.
The couple met while attending Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 1960. They were married from 1970 until their divorce in 1997. Bochco died in April 2018, aged 74, after a battle with leukemia.
After ‘Murder One’ ended, she still starred in the spin-off miniseries ‘Murder One: Diary of a Serial Killer’ in 1997, which was her last screen work.
