It’s a fiasco, Karl: why no one wants to celebrate the coronation of Charles III

The coronation of Britain’s new king, Charles III, is scheduled for May 6, but so far the large-scale event is almost in jeopardy, and all because none of the stars want to perform during of the coronation. Why does everyone want to distance themselves from the historical event? We understand our hardware.

Prince Charles automatically became King of Great Britain after the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, in September 2022. He will go down in history as Charles III. Although officially he is already considered the leader of Great Britain, the official coronation will take place on May 6. But it’s still unclear if this event will live up to its status. The fact is that many stars have already refused to perform there. Charles III received rejections from almost every major star in the country. Adele, Ed Sheeran, Elton John (he was Charles’ first choice), Harry Styles cited busy touring schedules. The King was even turned down by the Spice Girls, who once gladly accepted invitations to events involving Charles (and Jerry even kissed him on the cheek once). Robbie Williams didn’t want to talk either.

“Organizers are working tirelessly to put together a top roster, but have encountered a number of problems,” one of the insiders told The Sun.

So what’s the problem ? There can be several reasons.

Charles III – a symbol of the crisis of the monarchy

Prince Charles was from the very beginning in the status of a kind of loser. As heir to the throne, he spent his whole life in his mother’s shadow, the British disliked him because of his scandalous marriage to Diana, and everyone said he should immediately abdicate in favor of his son, Prince William. The start of the royal “career” also did not work out – the press immediately began to write about Charles’s angry character – remember how furious he was when the pen with which he signed the document went fled and how well he communicated with his subordinates.

In this context, many artists may simply not want to be associated with such a “problematic” monarch.

Megan and Harry will roll the main “concert”

It is not yet known whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the main troublemakers, will come to the coronation. But their possible visit to London could traditionally be accompanied by further scandals, especially after Harry talked a lot about himself and his family in a Netflix documentary. Guest artists may be afraid to enter negative articles not of their own free will – just like coronation attendees. Yes, and it will obviously be difficult to compete with the “concerts” of guests from the United States. Given that Meghan and Harry’s first child, Archie, was born on May 6, there’s a risk they’ll try to ‘steal the show’.

Stars don’t want to be ridiculed

The massive refusal of artists to perform has already become an occasion for jokes on the network. Now it can become a chain reaction – new guests will always think about whether to join the concert when there is a risk of becoming a trolling object.

There is no official list of speakers yet. Sources say Kylie and Dannii Minogue, rock band Take That, American soul singer Lionel Richie and songwriter Andrew Lloyd are set to perform at the coronation.
