A triple threat is unleashed Shazam! fury of the gods in the form of the Daughters of Atlas. Hespera, Kalypso and Anthea, Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler, enter the DCEU as mythical antagonists determined to reclaim their powers from the wizard Zachary Levi and his newfound family. Talk with Empire, the actors discuss their team of villains.
What was the key to interpreting the nymphs-daughters of Atlas?
Elena Mirren: It’s hard when you’re playing a goddess, honestly. You have power, a visceral aura or a sense of superiority, that’s for sure. The gods are supposed to know everything, but the physical complications of a human character don’t really come into play.
Lucy Liu: In this fantasy world, we were able to continue playing the dynamic of ourselves as siblings. There is an energy and an order. That’s what we portrayed on camera, but behind the scenes there was a crazy chemistry between us that continues. And we are all like kindred spirits.
Mirror: Shazam! it’s a family matter. It’s one of the biggest drivers and the reason why I think people love movies. I’m not used to being an older sister, which I was in this particular group, because I have an older sister. So I really understood the dynamic between the younger sister [Zegler’s Anthea] and the oldest.
