How “Miss World” refused to play the most beautiful vampire in “Twilight” – why she was afraid of this role

Rosalie Hale from the Twilight saga is described in the books as an incredible beauty that no woman in the world can compare to – not among vampires, let alone among mortals. The role went to a long-time acquaintance of the director of the first part, Catherine Hardwicke, the young actress Niki Reed: she starred in other films of the woman.

One of the most obvious contenders for the role of Rosalie was herself… Aishwarya Rai! By then, she had acted in dozens of films – and the existing title of “Miss World” underlined her advantage over the rest of the cast participants.

Aishwarya has long been rumored to be part of the ‘Twilight Saga’. And yet, in the end, the movie star decided to refuse the role – and because of the fear of looking too mature in the frame.

Indeed, at that time, an actor had already been chosen to play the role of Rosalie Emmett’s lover. Despite his brutal appearance, Kellan Lutz was only 21 – around the same age as his character in the book. Aishwarya, 34, was afraid that against the background of the young man she would look like her overage chosen one and cause excessive criticism from book fans. However, we can hardly imagine a brilliant Indian in the role of a deathly pale blonde. Such a transformation would hardly have happened without a very obvious and noticeable make-up!
