Oscar 2023: the web reacts to the ceremony with memes

Sunday (12), the 95th edition of Oscars 2023. A ceremony this time it was in the afternoon and with a champagne colored carpet which is great edit if we consider the previous years. And the memes couldn’t be missing! It started with ceremony host Jimmy Kimmel cracking some jokes about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock last year.

And it took over the web with netizens cheering on Oscar nominees and snubs. There were fans revolted by The Batman receiving no nominations in the Best Cinematography or Best Score categories, despite the film being considered a hit with audiences on the big screen and streaming, the story raised $128.5 million.

On the other hand, there were people who cheered on the success of All everywhere at once and praising Michelle Yeoh, with memes. Rihanna’s fans didn’t accept that the diva didn’t take home any statuettes, even more so with the song that marked her return to her music, in Wakanda Forever.

But there were also jokes that a song called ‘Applause’ was nominated for an Oscar and wasn’t by Lady Gaga – she was in the running for best original song with ‘Hold my hand’, in Top Gun: nonconformist.
