Call of an ambulance to his mother: the difficult childhood of the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love

When you are born into a family of rockers, you are in fairly childish trials.

Cursed from birth

Speculation surrounding Frances Bean Cobain began even before she was born. While Courtney Love was still expecting a baby, insiders leaked reports to the press that she used drugs during her pregnancy. Scandals led to the fact that when Francis was only a few weeks old, the guardianship service removed her from the family, albeit for a short time.

When she was only two years old, the baby lost her father – Kurt Cobain committed suicide. On April 1, 1994, they saw each other for the last time – the girl visited her father in a rehabilitation center in Marina del Rey, California. Subsequently, the rocker’s daughter was brought up by her mother, aunts and paternal grandmother.

The tragedy of Frances’ life did not end there. In 2003, when the girl was 11, Love was again deprived of custody due to her drug problems. Frances also had to witness her mother overdose on painkillers. She ended up calling 911 herself.

“Some kids my age were like, ‘Damn, I didn’t do my homework,’ and I was like, ‘Damn, I had to call an ambulance to get my mom’s stomach pumping last night! “, she recalls.

Custody of Frances Love could not be restored until 2005.

Leave the house

In 2009, when Francis was 17, she asked the court to allow her to live with relatives through the Kurt Cobain family. Although the reasons for her request were not widely known at the time, in 2012, when Frances was already of age, additional details emerged.

Frances had a long list of complaints against her mother, according to court documents. First, she claimed that two of her pets died due to Love’s neglect: one was poisoned by eating Courtney’s scatter medication, and the other was suffocated in a pile things. But Francis was concerned about more than animal welfare. In addition to Love constantly taking prescription drugs, Frances also noted that her mother had a terrible habit of smoking in bed and falling asleep at the same time.

“I am constantly worried that she will start a fire (which she has done at least three times) that will threaten our lives,” Frances said in the released court documents.

Reconciliation

In recent years, Frances and her mother seem to reconnect.

“When my mom is on track and healthy, she’s one of the most successful, beautiful, smart, kind people I’ve ever met,” Cobain’s daughter said in 2019.

Frances also noted that her mother, “a really good person,” even though she made mistakes.
