“Naked nails”: what should a manicure without varnish include according to the star nail designer

Let’s be clear right away: bare nails are not the same as bare nails!

“Before, bare nails were boring,” says celebrity nail artist Jenna Hipp, whose clients include Michelle Williams, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Lawrence. – However, I think that after many women’s nails have suffered from years of using gel polish, nail art takes a back seat. But a coating manicure is not so easy, because it allows you to see all the little things.

Hipp is of the opinion that nails really need a “break” sometimes. If they become dry, brittle, uneven or change color, it is better to abandon the coating for a while, especially when it comes to gel polish or acrylic. But during a break, Jenna explains, there’s nothing you can do: “Be prepared to spend two minutes on a mini-manicure every day,” she says. Here is what should be included in such a procedure.

The short is cute

Bare nails, Jenna says, look best when they’re short and round, and long nails are more likely to break and harbor more dirt and bacteria. For shaping, Hipp recommends using a crystal nail file, which isn’t as rough as metal or wood. At the same time, you need to work with short movements in one direction, otherwise you will not be able to create a neat and smooth edge of the nail plate.

I love cuticles!

The cuticle is a natural barrier that prevents infection from penetrating under the nail bed. As Hipp explains, microcracks occur due to dryness, and therefore the main thing is to regularly moisturize the nails and skin of the hands. The manicurist recommends that you first apply nail conditioner, wait two minutes for it to be absorbed, then gently brush your nails with a special brush or toothbrush, and only then use cuticle oil and hand cream.

Launder Wisely

“If your nails have stains of polish, rub a silicone-based whitening toothpaste into the nail bed for a minute to remove the yellowing,” advises Jenna.

Choose a varnish

Do your hands look bare without polish? In this case, Jenna recommends using translucent matte finishes fortified with biotin and vitamin E. “Some of them are almost non-shiny, and I use them when doing men’s manicures,” she says.
