Claudia, Naomi, Cindy, Linda – these names became household names in the 90s and still symbolize the supermodel era for us. But there were many other names. Today we invite you to find out how Yasmin Gauri lives, who radically changed the modeling profession, then went into the shadows. And look at his beautiful adult daughter.
Sold a burger – got on the podium
Yasmin was born in Montreal, Canada to a Pakistani father and a German mother. The girl did not think of a modeling career, but fate found her anyway. At 17, she worked part-time at McDonald’s. One day, a model scout came by for a bite to eat and immediately noticed an unspectacular girl behind the cash register and offered to cooperate with the agency. Although the religious father (and he was an imam) Yasmin protested against this, the girl decided to try her luck. In his native Canada, due to his appearance, which local brands considered “too ethnic”, Yasmin did not enjoy much success, but abroad there was a demand for such a kind.
Paris at his feet
Soon Gauri conquered the main fashion capital – Paris. She became the industry’s first successful South Asian model: the first to appear in famous luxury campaigns and the first to appear on the cover of Vogue, paving the way for other South Asian girls to the Olympus of fashion.
